In 1989, Nuarta’s proposal for the Garuda Wisnu Kencana was approved by the Indonesian President, Soeharto, who even participated in the groundbreaking ceremony. However, the project faced significant setbacks. The land acquisition process spanned a decade, and an economic crisis forced a temporary halt. Nuarta, despite the challenges, remained undeterred. His passion for his homeland and artistic vision fueled his determination to finish the project.
